About Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung (RLS)
The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung is one of the six major political foundations in the Federal Republic of Germany, tasked primarily with conducting political education both at home and abroad. The foundation is closely linked to Die Linke, the German Left Party. Since its founding in 1990, the foundation’s work has adhered to the legacy of its namesake, German socialist leader Rosa Luxemburg, and seeks to represent democratic socialism with an unwavering internationalist focus.
The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung awards financial grants to highly-qualified undergraduate and doctoral students from Germany and abroad who evidence high levels of social and political engagement. Applications from undergraduate and doctoral students from scientific and technical disciplines are actively encouraged, as well as from graduates of technical colleges.
Benefits of Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Scholarship
- International Students – Monthly stipend €934 , additional supplements added.
- Doctoral Students – €1,450 per month, monthly research allowance.

Requirements for Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Scholarship
- Enrollment (if not already established: at least one admission) at a state or state-recognized university in Germany
- Proof of a completed bachelor’s degree or completed undergraduate studies if you are enrolled in a Diplom, Magister, or Staatsexamen program
- Excellent academic performance
- Social or political engagement in the spirit of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation
- Very good German language skills (B2 level – proof of language acquisition)
- You have not been in Germany for more than 15 months at the time of application. This applies unless you have already studied in Germany (bachelor’s degree) or are preparing for university studies.
- You must be in Germany to study.
- You can apply for the Lux like scholarship program if
- You don’t have an academic background.
- You already have a (technical) high school diploma and would like to study.
- You are about to graduate from a (technical) high school diploma and would like to study.
- You are interested in or committed to socio-political and social issues.
- You haven’t yet studied.
